Bristol Tourist Information
Bristol, a city just over 100 miles from London, radiates wealth and affluence since the city is a host to a large economy, a flourishing industry related to aerospace and technologies, and the Rolls Royce automotive industry too. This city also radiates with plenty of sunshine since the location is one of the warmest in the United Kingdom and presents anywhere from 1500 to 1800 hours of sunny weather year round. Long ago, Bristol started out as a simple seafaring location; affixed near the Frome and Avon Rivers, both of which freely flow toward the Severn, Bristol was, at one time, a bustling maritime port. If interested in learning more about Bristol's seafaring history when visiting the city, the traveller check out the Maritime Heritage Centre which has exhibits related to the seafaring traditions in Bristol and ship building practices too.
While visiting Bristol, there are some definite "must see" locations. A visit to Brandon Hill Park gives the traveller a bird's eye view from the Cabot Tower: a 105 foot tower that overlooks the city; this location was established to celebrate John Cabot's trip to America and the 400th anniversary of the occasion. If interested in theatrical pursuits, the Theatre Royal unifies history and the arts; this destination is the oldest theatre in operation in the entire United Kingdom and was first opened in the year 1766; travellers can enjoy some performing arts as they examine some of the impressive Georgian structures still in existence and attributes of this famous location. Finally, one cannot pass up the opportunity to see the 702 foot wide Clifton Suspension Bridge which spans the Avon River; this destination has become synonymous with the city of Bristol after it's completion in the year 1864.
