Martins Chooses Newcastle over Arsenal

The Toon Army’s star striker Obafemi Martins has vowed to stick with Newcastle United. The player is thought to have snubbed a massive £15 million move to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal in favour of the North East club.

A number of other teams, including Manchester United and AC Milan, are also thought to have expressed interest in 23-year-old Martins, although the player has insisted that he is happy to stay with Newcastle.

Chris Nathaniel, who is Martins’ advisor, confirmed that his client had been receiving plenty of interest from some top clubs. However, he was also keen to emphasise that his client had no intention of leaving Tyneside just yet. Mr Nathaniel said: “Several top clubs have made contact, but Obafemi hasn’t indicated an interest in any of them and he has no intention of quitting the club.”

Martins is thought to want to stay on at Newcastle United in order to help the Tyneside team achieve victory in Europe. The star player, who is a Nigerian International, apparently came close to quitting the team under Sam Allardyce, who often failed to give him a starting place in the first team. However, he has played far more under new manager, Kevin Keegan, and is now thought to be eager to help his new boss build a strong squad and gain a sought-after place in Europe.

Martins arrived at Newcastle United in 2006 as part of £10 million move from Inter Milan. He is thought to have more than two years left on his £60,000-a-week deal with Newcastle United.

Martins’ pledge of allegiance to the club will please Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan, who is hoping to retain his star players and build a great squad to help boost the team’s performance next season.
